Jaded

Since April is poetry month, I thought I would try to write one. A few of my friends are also participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge, but they are writing poems. So here is to Rosanne and Mary Beth. Thanks for the inspiration.

Bewitched by JK Candlen – Weekend Writing Warriors #10 March 28, 2015

Last week we ended the first scene in Chapter 1 with Iris having an odd feeling that her friend Carol was in trouble. Is her second sight playing tricks on her again?

No it’s not. Carol has gotten in a little too deep and thinks her actions won’t have any repercussions. Will she be able to talk herself out of this one? Maybe. Then maybe not. You’ll just have to keep coming back and find out.

And don’t forget to check out my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. You won’t be disappointed.

     Carol stopped and listened. Nothing.

God it was cold. The frigid wind froze her fingers around the flashlight. Too bad her gloves were in her car, she could use them now. Even her jacket gave little protection from the blast of tiny needles bombarding her each time the wind swept through the trees.

As she stood at the edge of the parking lot she pointed the flashlight left then right to scan the woods. The isolation and stillness of the night was eerie.

We are at the end of the first scene in Chapter 1. It’s a tad longer than 8 sentences, but I wanted to wrap this up so we can find out what Carol is up too next week.

Don’t forget to visit my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors too. I’m loving the stories and can’t wait to read what will happen next.

A cloud of impending disaster swirled around her friend. Iris could feel it every time she saw her.

How much can one person intervene into someone else’s life? So Iris let it drop. There was no way to

force Carol to seek help unless she wanted too.

“Come on Bev. Let’s go inside. We need to wash our faces.” Iris said as she started to walk

towards the backdoor. Carol kept creeping into her thoughts. The urge to check on her was

overwhelming. She knew her friend was in trouble, but didn’t know what to do.  She will give her a

call. Who cares if it’s one thirty in the morning.

“I’ll come in for a minute. It’s late and I’ve got to go.” Bev said following Iris into the kitchen.

In last week’s snippets, Iris just gave Bev the incantation to recite while using the love potion on Rick. But something else is brewing and it has nothing to do with magic. Hmmmm, a dark cloud is gathering over Tobias and guess who gets caught under it.

Don’t forget to visit my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors too. The stories are a fantastic read and you will enjoy them as much as I do.

“Yes, I know I can do this.” Bev said as she watched Iris pour the liquid from the pot into a glass bottle.

“Have you talked with Carol lately?” Iris asked changing the subject.

“No, I haven’t seen or talked to her in weeks. I think she and Frank are having issues.”

That was an understatement Iris thought. What husband would go along with what Carol was doing?

Yea! It’s the weekend. The weather is turning and I can feel spring in the air. So in celebration, I thought to add a few more sentences to this installment of Weekend Writing Warriors.

And don’t forget to check out my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors too. The snippets are great reads and I enjoy the blog hop. It is so much fun.

But Iris hoped Bev wasn’t setting herself up for another heartache. What was the old adage, ‘You can’t buy love?’

Rick seemed to be a nice guy, but Iris didn’t really know him well. Could the love potion hurt? Probably not. Unless something went wrong while brewing the potion. Iris explained the risks to Bev earlier but she would restate them, especially after the explosion.

“Remember Bev, you must chant this three times as you sprinkle the potion.” Iris said as she handed Bev a scroll with the incantation.

We are forever together under this moon,

Our hearts entwine and love will bloom.

It’s the weekend and you know what that means, 8 more sentences from my completed manuscript, Bewitched. Iris is still pondering what went wrong with the potion but let’s Bev use it anyways. Oh boy, you’ll just have to wait to see what mischief the potion creates.

And don’t forget to check out my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors too. The spinning snippets are such a tease and will bring you back each weekend for more.

Bending down, Iris took a sniff at the pot. She didn’t think it was unpleasant to smell but then again it wasn’t the most pleasing scent. How Bev was going to get the potion on Rick was beyond her. She smiled at the thought. Bev would have to recite the incantation while dowsing Rick with it in three places.

The candles flickered in the frigid night air, Iris blew them out. She was surprised that Bev followed her instructions on carving her and Rick’s names on the white pillar candles. Her friend was determined, it was evident.

Before anyone says anything, I’m sorry I left you hanging with Iris and Bev. They have been up to no good and it has taken most of my time to reign them in.

For the readers who haven’t been following along, Iris has just cooked up a love potion for Bev. But something might have gone wrong. I guess you could say the small explosion was a telltale sign.

Feel free to look back at the previous posts to catch up. So without wasting any more time, here are the next 8 sentences for my Weekend Writing Warriors. If you like what you read, follow me on Twitter @JKCandlen or check me out on FB.

“I sure hope it does. I have a date with Rick tonight and I know he is the one,” Bev said eagerly. Iris gave her a sideward glance. Her friend was always chasing after the happy ever after. Was there any such thing? She didn’t think so.

The reaction picked at Iris’s thoughts. Did Aunt Alice leave anything out of the recipe?
